National Museum of Funeral History Advertising Campaign

The task was to select an event, institution or cause in need of promotion. I chose the National Museum of Funeral History due to it being a place that I was unfamiliar with. This is a place that is a popular hotspot, however there's little to no branding to them.

About the Campaign

Through thoughtful advertising, interactive events, and community driven programs, this campaign aims to broaden the museum’s reach, all while transforming it into a place that encourages education and collaboration. By presenting funeral history in a way that connects to the universal human experience, the museum will become more approachable and engaging to an audience of all ages.

Overall Goal (Logo)

The goal of building a brand identity for The National Museum of Funeral History is to transform it into a welcoming cultural destination that celebrates remembrance, heritage, and life. A consistent, approachable identity will make the museum more inclusive, build recognition and trust, and connect funeral history to universal human experiences of memory and legacy. A logo was designed to feel rooted in tradition, yet modern enough to remain culturally relevant.

Final Logo

Below shows the final logo and logo guide. The idea for the logomark is based on an ellipses. An ellipses symbolizes continuation which is ideal for the museum, since the museum celebrates the continuation of life.

Overall Goal (Event Poster Series)

The goal of creating event collateral such as posters is to capture attention, spark curiosity, and present the museum as a welcoming cultural destination. Posters should promote the event while reinforcing the museum’s identity with engaging visuals and approachable messaging. Ultimately, they aim to drive attendance, build awareness, and position the museum as a place where history, culture, and connection come together. For this deliverable, I would be working with 3 different events. Those being an evening celebrating Mardi Gras funeral processions, an event celebrating El Dia De Los Muertos food, music, and afterlife traditions, and finally a Halloween event celebrating Egyptian food, music, and afterlife traditions. All of these events are based off of existing exhibits of the museum.

Final Posters

Below shows the final comps for all 3 posters. For the 1st one, I replicated a bead-like effect in the poster to resemble Mardi Gras beads for the Mardi Gras event. The second poster takes inspiration from papel picado, as that is a popular tradition for El Dia De Los Muertos. Finally, the last poster shows an emboss effect placed onto a letterform to resemble Egyptian art/calligraphy.
